Whilst this may be more an honorary title than an actual role, I couldn’t have a website about me, without the irrepressible Shem.
Shem studies the route
Useless fact of the day. Shem’s birth weight (an eye-watering 12 pounds 9 ounces) is exactly the same as a certain Lance Armstrong. Now I’m not someone to put pressure on my children but, Shem, if you could win 7 Tour De France without fighting off cancer beforehand please; that’d be just fine. I hope Shem will be able to remember some of this adventure when he’s older but I suspect, at 3, he probably won’t. Still, we’ll take plenty of photos. Anyway, Shem is honorary Director of Operations.
Deputy Director of Operations - Weighing in at a positively measly 11 pounds, Shem’s assistant (also mainly an honorary thing) is Sylvia; born on the 19 March 2007.
Having such youth in the team brings with it further challenges. It’s one thing to cycle round the country. Not wanting to be separated from the family for a long time, I suppose the original plan was to have Sarah and Shem come round the whole way in a camper van of some description. With the arrival of Sylvia, it simply wasn’t realistic for Sarah to look after them both for such a long time on her own. Hence the change of plan; see the "support driverss" tab.
