Please make a donation
This tour is an adventure for me; and not one that I think anyone should have to subsidise. Therefore, all of the costs of ferries, accommodation, food etc. will be borne entirely by me. So every penny that you donate will go to Samaritans. If you want to donate on-line without further delay, click here. However, you may find it useful to read the following first.
Which branch?
One thing that is important to me is that I’m keen that the proceeds of the trip are spread across the regions. So if you would like your donation to go to a specific or your local branch, please answer the questions accordingly on the donations page or (if sending a cheque) write a brief note on the reverse of the cheque. If you’re not sure which is your local branch but you want to support them, please, in the same way, say where you are from and that you would like the donation to be local. We’ll sort the rest out. Pledges without any specific direction will go to the local branch where I am a volunteer; the Leicester branch.
Gift aid
Remember (he says with his accountant’s hat firmly on), if you’re a taxpayer then please gift aid the donation. It’s worth 28% more to the Samaritans (and if you’re a higher rate taxpayer you can reclaim a further 23% back from the taxman).
To gift aid when paying by credit card, simply tick the relevant box. If paying by cheque you will need to include on a slip of paper your name and postcode and something like the following statement “I would like this donation to be gift aided and I confirm that I will have paid tax in the year to at least the amount the charity will reclaim on the donation”.
How to donate
![]() | On-line If you would like to sponsor me for this tour, the easiest and quickest (it’ll take about 2 minutes depending on how fast you can type) way to do so is on-line with your credit card using the Workwithus site I’ve set up. Any donation can be anonymous if you wish. Please follow this link . |
![]() | By cheque If you prefer to make a pledge and pay by cheque (either straight away or after I’ve done something), could you please make cheques payable to “Leicester Samaritans” and send them to Leicester Samaritans, 1a Elmfield Avenue, Leicester. LE2 1RB. Please add a slip of paper or write on the reverse of the cheque to say that it is in relation to this tour. Also, if you want to donate to your local or other specific branch, then similar rules apply. Add this on a slip of paper with your cheque and we will sort out the admin. |
![]() | Payroll giving If you work for a company (or indeed a firm of accountants that have read this through the Mercia newswire) and they operate a Give As You Earn Scheme, would you consider putting this forward as a charity to support please. (By all means say which firm you are from if you wish.) Please send details to the Leicester branch (address above). |
![]() | For the gamblers – good old fashioned sponsorship If you’re really daring, you could sponsor me by the mile or for the number of branches visited. That’ll give me more motivation to keep going when the going gets tough (somewhere between Uppingham and Peterborough on day 1!). As a guide, if I complete the course, sponsoring me a penny per mile (and based on my rough estimates of the planned mileage), would come to just under £30. (Therefore, tuppence a mile would be £60!) A pound a branch, if I were to complete the course, would come to £76. Whether you pay by credit card on-line or by cheque is of course up to you. Please leave details (including how I can contact you) in the guest book and I'll add you to my sponsorship form. |
But finally, remember
… someone calls Samaritans on average once every 7 seconds. In order to continue to be able to be there, we need any support you can give.
Please give what you can afford. Thank you.
